So our Death by Party Buying trip to Thailand continues. We tackled the grotesquely large Chatuchak Weekend Market. Over 15,000 stalls covering 35 acres under one tarp in sweltering tropical heat. To say it was overwhelming is an understatement. The markets are rife with knock offs and piracy, so it’s been like walking through a mine field.
Our strategy has been to identify legit Thai Designer labels and then track them down to their stalls or show rooms. We’ve found some doozies. Sure Clothing, Rambo and a couple of others knocked us off our feet.
We’ve finally gotten to spend some time checking out temples, the Grand Palace and drinking our faces off in China Town and the Sukhumvit district. One night we went high end and went to Bed, one of highest ranked restaurants & night clubs in the world. (We are lucky, they lost their lease and were closing that week.) The down side to this trip is that you can’t get a proper martini anywhere in this country. Bed hooked me up with a Kettle dirty that a girl can love. Then we spent a couple of nights down and dirty with the Sukhumvit street popup scene. Dozens of VW bugs roll up, tricked out with pop tops, carrying full bars, disco lights, sound systems blasting hip hop and tables and chairs.
Buckets of rum at the bus, then noodles at the cart next door. I never want to leave.
